Chapter 24 – A Strange Dream

Jiang Yu came bringing the royal physician.

The royal physician knew Xue Wang had been injured while trying to protect the Empress, naturally he didn’t dare neglect this Empress. Moreover, after the swellings and bruises on Her Majesty’s face disappeared, she looked radiant and her original beauty was shining through. The physician examined Her Majesty’s pulse, then prescribed an ointment for the new wound around her ear and said, “Your Majesty needs not worry. After the monthly period passed, I will prescribe medicine for improving your health. For the next few days, avoid wetting the wound. Also, let the kitchen staff know not to make cold and spicy dishes.” Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.24

Chapter 23 – “Cleaning Up”?

“This old servant has committed a grave mistake! This old servant deserves death! This old servant cannot be forgiven…” Jiang Yu kowtowed over and over again; his official hat had fallen aside and his forehead was swollen.

A royal physician was treating Xue Junliang’s wounds while shaking in fear. When Xue Wang waved a hand allowing him to leave, he immediately escaped.

Working as a royal physician might not necessarily be easier than as an official of imperial court. He would, some times, heard words he shouldn’t be allowed to. Those words might not be very precise and very telling, but still they could be leaked to outsiders. Therefore, if His Majesty let him go, he would hurriedly go. It was better to know less. Chapter 22 – Assassination

“Guards!”

Teng Yun hadn’t even come down from the carriage before it was chaos outside.

Xue Junliang was already out of the carriage. He had predicted someone would intercept the Empress’ entourage en route, but didn’t expect them to be so brazen to attack somewhere so close to home such as here at the Shili Pavilion. Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.22

Chapter 21 – Sending-off

Teng Shang didn’t know the Empress was Teng Yun, so of course he felt nothing when he saw her. He greeted the Empress, and that was that. Only Teng Yun felt uncomfortable.

The two of them entered the main hall together. Jiang Yu shook his head. By His Majesty’s attitude, Jiang Yu could guess His Majesty was thinking there was another man in the Empress’ heart. Although Teng Shang and Her Majesty didn’t know each other, by these several encounters, Jiang Yu could clearly see His Majesty was very antagonistic towards Teng Shang.

After all, Jiang Yu had also heard what Teng Qianyi had said. Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.21

Chapter 20 – The Wedding

On the day of Teng Shang and Xue Houyang’s wedding, Xue Junliang’s messenger bearing the news of Teng Shang’s betrothal arrived at Teng Country. By this time, the news could be considered late; it was all said and done.

At first, Teng Wang thought Xue Junliang’s messenger came to bring Teng Yun’s ashes, because he knew it was impossible for Teng Shang to be sent back here. But even in his dreams, Teng Wang would never have expected Xue Country’s messenger came to offer their congratulations. Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.20

Chapter 19 – Meeting

Xue Junliang was holding Teng Yun’s hand all the time, making Teng Yun feel uncomfortable. From time to time, he tried to pry his hand away but Xue Junliang was completely unaware. Xue Junliang might be too focused on showering his Empress with tenderness.

When it was time for dinner, he even personally put dishes onto Teng Yun’s plate. Xiu Yao watched this scene feeling overwhelmingly grateful for her mistress’ good fortune. After dinner, Xiu Yao was sent to summon the royal physician. Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.19

Chapter 17 – Son

When Teng Shang came to, he heard someone laughing outside the door, “Lord Marquis, why are you standing outside and not going in?”

Xue Houyang’s voice was heard replying, “I’ve only come back home for some time, you think you can poke fun at your master?”

The first voice was still laughing, “This slave doesn’t dare! I’m just tired of watching you acting so nervous. This is your residence, your own territory. You don’t have to pace aimlessly. If you want to see him, just go in already.” Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.17

Chapter 16 – Old Acquaintance

Xue Houyang’s head jerked up to stare at Xue Junliang; his expression grave. Suddenly he dropped down on his knees.

Xue Junliang was a bit surprised by Xue Houyang’s earnestness, but still he good-naturedly laughed, “Houyang, what is it? Why suddenly so courteous?”

Xue Houyang lowered his head and said with hesitation, “Your Majesty doesn’t know who that person is. If you know, you will surely condemn me of sin.”

“Will I?” Xue Junliang smiled and pulled Xue Houyang to stand, “How about you tell me first, then I’ll decide whether you’re guilty or not?” Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.16

[T/N : Hey! I’m sorry for the very late update. It’s been a crazy week. Enjoy!]

Chapter 15 – Get Married Immediately

At Teng Yun’s reaction, instead of getting angry, Xue Junliang laughed, “You’re the first person ever dare to refuse me.”

Teng Yun felt as if his lips was catching fire.

He was nineteen when he was sent to the battlefield and he stayed there for ten years. He didn’t remember when it started, but Teng Yun was always trying to be honest and decorous. He did have to attack cities and take war prisoners, but as a soldier he was required to be discipline and strict. Added that Teng Yun was a chief general, he took it upon himself to be even more cautious in his conduct.

Consequently, his experiences in kissing could be considered rather unsophisticated, let alone such a deep and lingering kiss that he was forced into just now. Which was the exact opposite of Xue Junliang’s. Continue reading The Ugly Empress Vol.1 Ch.15
