Chapter 35 – Strategy

Zhao Lu only stared at Feng Ming and said nothing. At first, Feng Ming was able to return the his gaze, but then he looked away. His heart still couldn’t let go of this man completely, Feng Ming was afraid if he looked at Zhao Lu too long, his heart would just give in.

Zhao Lu chuckled and then turned to go.

Only at this time, Feng Ming finally found back his voice. He said lowly, “Lord Marquis, wait a minute.”

Teng Shang said, “A long journey is what I’ve been looking forward to, how could I feel tired?”

“That is where Lord Minister has mistaken,” Xue Yu said, “You could have stayed in the safety of the capital city, where you could have anything you want. You didn’t have to insist clinging on your principle and eventually forcing yourself to do an inconvenient work like this.”

Xue Houyang came to an abrupt stop and quickly retracted his hands. The sword that he’d blocked fell to the ground with a clank; the sound was quite loud, alerting the guards outside. They rushed inside but then halted in shock.

Xue Yu’s heart dropped to the ground, but somehow he wasn’t surprised Xue Junliang had taken to address his show of power. He thought if he wanted to show his power off in front of Xue Junliang, he’d have to work harder. Xue Junliang was a king, and he himself was just a subordinate; he would always be inferior to Xue Junliang and could only force a smile and swallow his anger.

When Teng Shang went out of the tea house, he saw Xue Houyang standing at the side of the street holding his horse’s reigns.

Xue Houyang also saw him and called out, “Are you going home, or do you still want to have a walk?”

Xue Houyang purposefully waited here for Teng Shang, showing that he knew Teng Shang had gone for tea with Xue Yu. But he didn’t say anything, and Teng Shang didn’t comment of his knowing either.

When Teng Yun heard Xue Junliang’s words, he wanted to laugh. Sure enough, a king always wished to possess everything, even a troop of one thousand soldiers he could not let go. That aside, Xue Yu bringing one thousand soldiers; these soldiers must be his main source of strength and his must trusted aides.

Xue Junliang deliberately wanted to give the Empress an impossible problem to solve. He saw with his own two eyes the Empress and Xue Yu were talking just now. He was sure she would never find solutions, and therefore could not prove she and Xue Yu had no connections.

But never would have he thought the Empress would actually smile.
